This last week I have tried to make cinnamon rolls three times. THREE. Twice during the weekend when I had plenty of time to let the dough rise and knead it properly and be patient. Another time, straight after work, no dinner, diving into kneading and impatiently waiting for it to double in size.
I was so full of hope! They looked so promising all swirled up and sweet!
Every bloody time, the rolls were too dry, too hard, too soft, not right.
I am accepting that there are certain things I can't do now. Like bread making, riding a unicycle, being anywhere high up (what a baby). I am accepting defeat by cinnamon roll.
If you like cinnamon as much as I do though, what about a cinnamon apple butter cake? (Hi Autumn)
Some cinnamon blueberry animal cookies?
This plum and cinnamon oat crisp has got autumn and it's crisp leaves written all over it.
These recipes are getting me so nostalgic for last Autumn. Pretty sure this years Autumn is going to kick last years butt though.
This pumpkin and cardamom cake is flipping amazing. Plus the spiced frosting? oh YEAH.
Does this feel like a recipe cop-out to you? It's not. I really did try! Me and cinnamon buns are not meant to be but there are lots of other things to make!
Happy beginning-of-Autumn!

I am sorry the buns gave you such a hard time! Ignore them and eat lots of those other treats!
thanks Mihl, going to forget about the betrayal by bun.
Accepting defeat by cinnamon roll - bhah ha ha! :)
I've had problems with cinnamon buns too. Sometimes, no matter how often you try, something just doesn;t work! Oh well, everything else looks awesome!
And would love to take you up on cake and wine! Lord knows I could use it right now. :)
It's not just you, love. I have yet to find a cinnamon roll recipe that actually works for me.
I would concede defeat and just get them from a pastry shop, but then I know they aren't vegan. Boooo.
I can't believe that you actually tried 3 times in one week! I would have given up and had to have a loooong break in between goes.
I'm sure your perseverance will pay off in the end!
cinnamon buns are hard! but i can't believe that three times isn't the charm. at least there is cinnamon apple butter cake!
Cinnamon buns are so fickle! I want to come back you some so you're not deprived anymore! I also now really want some. Cinnamon is such a flirt, and can get me to eat anything. Damn you, and your coquettish ways, cinnamon.
:) Sarah
Aw T, let's just get drunk and eat cake yeah? come over!!
Thanks Marisa, I really do feel like they need the butter to be right. sigh.
Frances, I'm like a dog with a bone/bun.
Jeanette, I'm so on it, apple butter is crack to me!

Putting some pure mashed potatoes in the dough is also working very well!
you. are. so. cute.
Three times?! Christ, Naomi, you are determined. I would have given up after the one. The picture looks good though. And mmmmm cinnamon recipe flashbacks.....
Maybe this is crazy, but I feel like this is possible! (Not that I have been giving lots of thought or anything, except that I totally have). When I return to the UK I am going to try to make this happen. PERSEVERE!
dude if you figure it out, we are having a south london bun party!
I have made these with almond milk, and they were easy and delicious! http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/06/cinammon_rolls_/ :)
